HOW WE STARTED...our Legacy
In 1986, Mr Royheath Ramdewu ventured out of Illovo Sugar and into the open world. He left Illovo Sugar, where he was employed as a qualified Artisan, to open a hardware store. He started this business with a mere capital of R3000.00 which he used for stock, rent and salaries. With the same breath, he sold his private car to purchase a 3ton Dyna truck to assist in the business. With the one truck and three employees, Mr Ramdewu took on the greatest challenge in his life. The business progressed very slowly, and after a few months, he incorporated a construction division and thus formed Dalton Builders and Suppliers.
In 1991, Mr Ramdewu purchased the property that we are currently occupying (2 Deppe Avenue). The business moved into the new premises and as time passed on, both the construction and hardware divisions grew to higher strengths. With the support of the communities and local enterprises, the business evolved immensely and as a result, Dalton Builders and suppliers were split into two separate companies:-
Dalton Builders – contractors
Dalton Hardware – suppliers
Once again these businesses grew even more and both the yard space and office space was not enough to accommodate both the businesses. Mr Ramdewu then purchased property in Cool Air, Tibouchinia Drive. He developed this property and ever since, this became the Dalton Builders main offices. The Hardware has since grown and once again, the need has arose to expand on what we have. Our legacy of providing quality service delivery to our clients and community recognition and development continues to take on a new and exciting future for both our divisions.
Mr ramdewu and his businesses are serving local areas by offering building, plumbing and carpentry solutions to a broad range of clients in both the public and private sector.
